Department of Anatomy

Description

Anatomy is one of the most fundamental and essential subjects in medical science. Anatomy is concerned with the identification and description of the body structures of human being. People, who study Anatomy, study the human body, how it is made up and how it works. On the other hand it helps to understand how the body functions, how diseases affect the body, and how to develop medical interventions. Understanding Anatomy provides the foundation upon which all other branches of medical science are built.

Department of Anatomy is responsible for teaching Phase - I MBBS medical students. The department involved in teaching various disciplines of Anatomy namely Gross Anatomy (study of visible structures), Embryology (development), Histology (microscopic structures), Neuroanatomy, Radiological Anatomy, Living Anatomy and Explanatory Figure Reading providing special emphasis on applied and functional aspects.

Offering a strong base in human anatomy knowledge to undergraduate students, the Anatomy Department of ShSMC stands as a cornerstone of excellence in medical Education. Facts to be noted, Anatomy Department of ShSMC in Bangladesh is renowned for its well-structured curriculum and advanced teaching methodologies. In addition, Department houses different teaching tools, cadaver, multimedia support and histology lab that enrich the academic experience and faster deep understanding among students.  In this department there is post for one professor, one associate professor, one assistant professor, one curator, and eight lecturers. All the teachers of Anatomy Dept, are highly qualified and dedicated, engaging students through interactive learning and help them to quench their thirst for knowledge of Anatomy. There are both under-graduates like MBBS, BDS.

Schedule of Class Hour of Different Courses

MBBS Lectures: 115 hours including integrated teaching, Tutorial-53 hours, Histology- 52 hours, Demonstration + Dissection + Card Examination- 307 hours, Total Class hours-527 hours.

BDS Lectures:  80 hours including integrated teaching, Tutorial-24 hours, Histology- 24 hours, Demonstration + Dissection + Card Examination- 168 hours, Total Class hours-296 hours.
